Dateline City:
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.

IHS CERA Chairman Daniel Yergin’s new book, The Quest: Energy, Security and the Remaking of the Modern World,  will debut at number four on the New York Times Bestseller List for nonfiction when the new list is published Sunday, October 9.

The Quest
—released September 20 by The Penguin Press—has already been called “necessary reading” by the New York Times in its review. It has also been hailed as a “another triumph” by the Financial Times and a “masterly piece of work” by The Economist. Excerpts of the book and additional bonus materials are available at www.danielyergin.com.

The Quest
continues the story begun by Dr. Yergin’s previous book, The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which was also was a New York Times bestseller and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize. The Quest brings that story to the present and expands it to focus on the full spectrum of sources fueling the energy future—from oil and gas, to wind and solar and advancements in efficiency.

“We are really in the midst of a momentous era for energy,” Yergin said. “On one hand you have this enormous challenge of how to continue to meet global demand for energy that is projected to rise by as much as 40 percent over the next few decades. On the other hand we continue to witness amazing and transformative developments—from realizing entirely new sources of oil and gas, to the rebirth of wind and solar power and the reemergence of the electric car.

“What I set out to do in The Quest is to show for the first time how all these dynamic forces are coming together and playing out,” Yergin added. “It is a fascinating story full of great personalities and one that will have lasting impact on our daily lives.”
