Father of man in Chicago CTA Red Line Mob beating, iPhone robbery, speaks out

CHICAGO (FOX Chicago News) - The father of the man who was beaten by a group of black men on the CTA Red Line after his wife dropped her iPhone, spoke to Fox Chicago News about his son's ordeal. The victim's parents say they received one of the most terrifying phone calls Saturday night, "My son's wife called and she was very shaken up. I could tell by the sound of my wife's voice that something seriously wrong had happened." The man's son was beaten while riding the Red Line near the Lake Street stop. The man asked Fox Chicago News not to reveal any of their identities because they're still so shaken up. The man says his son, wife and a friend were leaving a concert and hopped on the CTA Red Line train. "There was a woman on the train with a baby, then there was another boy there that one was beating on, or pretending to beat on, but there was a lot of screaming going on." The victim's father said "he believes that was a distraction. When the group moved, his son's wife dropped her phone. One of the teens causing the problems on the train then grabbed it. "He just said to him, hey you might have my wife's phone. And that's, that's all it took. That's when they jumped him." The beating left his son with a broken orbital bone under his eye and a concussion. "He's still struggling with the headaches and taking it easy and getting a lot of rest.
